First Ammonia and Uniper have announced their cooperation on a green ammonia project in Texas with production set to begin in 2026.
The project will produce ammonia from renewable electricity and be located in Victoria, Texas, and be the first commercial-scale ammonia facility to use solid-oxide electrolyzers, which the producer said are 30% more energy efficient.
It is anticipated that First Ammonia will initially produce 100,000 tonnes/year to be delivered Uniper, which is part of their effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for ammonia consumers.
The producer said each year it will avoid the equivalent of 180,000-240,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide when compared to grey ammonia.
“We are excited to partner with Uniper to deliver green ammonia to the global market from our 100% carbon-free, innovative flagship project in Texas,” said Joel Moser, First Ammonia CEO.
