VP Harris plans N.C. stop on nationwide tour of universities

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to visit North Carolina A&T University this month, part of what’s been billed as the VP’s “Fight for Our Freedoms College Tour.”

The White House said the VP will visit the historically Black university in Greensboro, North Carolina, Sept. 15.

The events planned at a dozen schools across the country is meant “to mobilize young people in the ongoing fight for fundamental freedoms and rights,” the White House said. The issues include abortion rights, voting rights, climate change, LGBT equality and book bans.

The tour comes as candidates look to begin rallying voters ahead of the 2024 elections. North Carolina could prove to be a crucial swing state in the presidential election and in deciding which party controls congress after next year.

“This generation is critical to the urgent issues that are at stake right now for our future,” Harris said in a news release.

“It is young leaders throughout America who know what the solutions look like and are organizing in their communities to make them a reality,” she said. “My message to students is clear: We are counting on you, we need you, you are everything.”

Harris also has stops scheduled at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, and Morehouse College in Atlanta.
