Alabama Rowing Takes Five of Six Races Against No. 18 Tennessee, Oklahoma

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Upon returning to Oak Ridge, Tenn., the Alabama rowing program swept the Oklahoma Sooners in all six races on Saturday and gathered five consecutive wins over the No. 18 Tennessee Lady Vols, as all three programs entered Melton Hill Lake either ranked or receiving votes in this week’s coaches poll.

The Crimson Tide’s Second Varsity Eight+ started off the morning by crossing the line in second place behind the Lady Vols. From there, Alabama would pick up five consecutive wins over its Big 12 counterparts, spanning across two Varsity Four+ crews and three Varsity Eights. In four of those victories, the Crimson Tide’s boats crossed the finish line four-to-six seconds ahead of the Vols’ second-place crews.

To close the day, Alabama’s 4V8+ beat Tennessee’s boat by nearly 11 seconds, crossing in 6:57.94 to grab the Tide’s fifth and final win. The showing marks the second-straight regatta where the Crimson Tide has finished as low as second in all its races.

“I was really pleased with how all our crews raced. All crews have been making improvements these past few weeks and that showed in their racing today. Our 2V8 experienced some misfortune in the last 500 where they liberated a lobster. It didn’t impact the end result but certainly impacted their margins to Tennessee and Oklahoma. Thanks to the University of Tennessee for hosting some great racing.”
