The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. today for parts of southeast Michigan. Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland and Shiawassee counties are included in the advisory area.

The weather service said to expect a little of everything today: A mix of snow and sleet in the morning followed by a mix of sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon.

Peak precipitation intensity is expected to be 1-5 p.m., impacting the evening commute.

“Plan for longer travel time Thursday afternoon and evening,” the weather service said in its advisory. “Slowdown and use caution while driving.”

Total snow accumulations of up to an inch and ice accumulations up to a tenth inch are forecast for Macomb County, but officials say the precipitation could melt upon contact with the ground that has grown warmer in the recent 60-degree days.

Colder weather moves in for Friday with highs near 26 degrees, falling to 21 later in the night.
